Soccer and Africa

The FIFA World Cup is to be played in South Africa this time around. To most of the people that live there, it is a big deal. Others think that it is a nuisance. It is debatable whether the World cup is beneficial or not. Les see if I can’t play devils advocate for once.

The world cup could be very beneficiary. It could create jobs, boost South Africa economy and increase its tourism. The world cup is going to be held in more than one region of the country. It is going to be held in eight different stadiums. That means jobs for people to work the ticket both, concession stands, program stands, merchandise, and other things. This could potentially create jobs for many who are unemployed.

The problem is that the World Cup only lasts about two weeks. It cost millions upon millions of dollars to build the stadiums and prepare for the event. This money could have gone to the people who needed it in the country, or to something that benefited the whole country. To make room for the stadium that was built, Schools and homes had to be torn down. That isn’t fair to either the Schools or the people who gave up their land.

GM’s New Car.

General Motors has made a new addition to their car line. This tiny car measures at five feet in length. Could GM possibly trying to compete with the Smart Car? I think so. The design of the car makes it look like a bubble. It looks like something out of a futuristic B-movie.

The EN-V, or Electric Network Vehicle, is an electric car. It’s small size also will help it manuever in and out of the busy Chinese streets. I don’t like the design at all. It looks like the tires are four shopping cart wheels.

When I see this car I think of something that comes out of a cereal box. It looks like the car Homer Simpson tried to make. What happened to all of the muscle cars? Where is the Heavy Chevy family that I know and love? I say bring back steel frame cars. Why, because they last and you don’t have to buy a new car every ten years.

Dinosaurs!!!

Dinosaurs are fascinating creatures. Scientists think that they know everything there is to know about them. The reality is that we know close to nothing about them. I say this because dinosaurs have been extinct for over 65 million years. The closest relative to them is the alligator. Some people even believe that humans evolved from dinosaurs. The smart people know that we evolved from sea monkeys!

Scientists have two theories of how the “dino” became extinct. Some say that a 9 mile wide asteroid hit the earth, causing ash and other particles to block out the sun. This created temperature drops that killed EV-ERY-THING!!!. Others hold a different thought that volcanic activity in India caused the mass extinction. NOW, I will reveal my theory!

First, the asteroid. If a 9 mile wide asteroid hit the earth, wouldn’t there be a crater that is at least 9 miles wide? Now for the volcanoes. You can’t be an expert of something that happened over 65 million years ago. You might know a lot about the subject, but there are so many things that we don’t know that no one can be an expert on the subject. So, if you can’t be an expert, how do you know what really happened? How can you be sure that the cause of the extinction was caused by volcanic activity in India, when at the time, there were no countries. Also at the same time, there were no separate  continents and the only land mass was super continent Pangea. My theory is that people just don’t know certain things.

Extreme Australia Mate!

Lets head down under! I might let all of this weather pass first. Australia has witnessed a little bit of everything weather wise in the past ten years. Everything from droughts to floods and dust storms to wildfires. Australia’s weather just can’t make up its mind.

The “Black Sunday” wildfire destroyed more than 2,000 homes and took the lives of 173 people. A severe drought also hit Australia. Without any water for the soil, it grew hard and cracked. This also caused a massive dust storm that was 600 miles wide. Again with another twist of crazy weather, record rains flooded areas of Australia severely.

People might blame all of this weather on global warming. Others might say that some of the weather is natural disaster. I think that the only thing that could have been cuased by global warming is the wildfire. Global warming doesn’t result in a drought. The dust storm was caused by the drought, not global warming. I think the floods were cuased by rains. I am not sure wether the flods are related to global warming or not.

An Armed Revolution?

Kyrgyzstan is a central Asian country. Right now, I feel as if it is a battle zone. Riots have been going on since Tuesday. The people of Kyrgyzstan are unhappy with the government and are revolting. The only problem is that these people are revolting with automatic weapons and RPGs  (rocket-propelled-grenade).

These “protesters” are armed and dangerous and they outnumber the riot police. There have been numerous deaths and people are being wounded daily. The government can’t really do anything since the protesters took over the government building. It’s obvious that the protesters either want a new form of government or a new public figure. I say we give it to them.

Another important thing about this revolution is an airbase that is located in the country. This airbase is close to Afghanistan and sends numbers of U.S troops into the country. While the riots were going on, flights on the air base were delayed for 12 hours. This has gotten way out of hand. I say someone needs to organize an election and fast.

Earthquakes.

Recently, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake shook the nation of Chile. It surprised most Chileans, because it hit the country at three o’clock in the morning. The earthquake didn’t produce the amount of damage that the Haitian one did. This is probably because tremor hit an area bout 70 miles away from the closest city. The quake is one of the largest ever recorded.

What people most feared was a tsunami. Although there were a few tsunamis that hit Juan Fernandez, they weren’t the size that officials feared. Although the earthquake didn’t do as much damage as the Haitian one did, there has been rioting and looting in the affected area of Chile. The government actually allowed looting as long as it was only for food, water and supplies.I don’t see why the government cant’ distribute food, water and supplies.

I fell as if this is getting too much attention in the media. I think that there are greater world issues at hand. I also think that there are greater domestic issues at hand. When you compare the Chilean and Haitian earthquakes, I think that the Haitian is worse.

The Iditarod and Animal Cruelty.

There has been rumors about Animal cruelty going on in the Iditarod. These rumors have been spread by PETA. Before I go on any further, I want to point out that PETA is crazy. They are considered a domestic terrorist organization by the department of agriculture. Some of their members have confessed to being arsonists and aren’t ashamed by it.

PETA claims that people are cruel to the dogs in the Iditarod. They say that the dogs are whipped and beaten untill they run. They also say that the dogs that aren’t chosen to raced are killed. I have to call shananies on this. I would never even contemplate information that is given to my by arsonists and domestic terrorists. I also want to know what source of information that they got this from.

I just don’t like PETA. You give them money through pledges and fundraisers and what do you get back? You get torched test labs and medical facilities that test their products on animals. Yes, these people test their medicine on animals, but I would let a lab rat die before I would let a human die.

Helping Haiti

Haiti is a interesting topic for me. I have mixed views about Haiti. The monster of an earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th. It just left destruction. The major problem in Haiti is that the country is very poor and the country doesn’t have enough money to pay for the damages.

Many organizations or helping Haiti. There are big names that are helping such as UNICEF. There are other names that I have never heard of before like Oxfam America and partners in health. I wonder why I haven’t.

Now I have no problem with giving support to Haiti, but I think the whole thing is getting to much attention. When hurricane Katrina hit, it took days for people to even think about going to help. I find it sickening that people are so eager to help people in another country, rather than helping their own. I think the main reason people are helping in Haiti is for publicity. We, as a country, have enough to worry about. I would rather help the country I live in, rather than dumping money into another.

Corn…and fat people.

There is a problem with Americans modern day diet. There is to much corn in our diet. For those of you that don’t know, CORN MAKES PEOPLE FAT. As Doctor Phil would say,” YOUR FAT AND YOU KNOW IT’! Here is a test to see if you are….. overweight. Stand up and look down. If you can’t see your toes,you are…… overweight.

Corn is in more food products than most of us think. Most fast food hamburger buns contain high fructose corn syrup. French fries are fried in corn oil. Most meat that we eat was corn fed. High fructose corn syrup is in soft drinks. “There are some 45,000 items in the average supermarket,” said Micheal Pollan.

Personally, I could care less about what I eat, as long as I like it. I LOVE FAST FOOD AND TALK ABOUT OBESITY AND CORN MAKING PEOPLE FAT AREN’T GOING TO CHANGE THAT! If you want to eat healthy, then eat healthy. If you could care less, then eat what ever you want.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has become a war torn country over the past years. The War on Terror is being fought in this country now. The living and health conditions are very poor in this country. Another problem in this country is poor education. The literacy rate for men is 43%,and 13%for women. A man named Greg Mortenson wants to change this.

Greg Mortenson has built schools before in south America. While driving through Afghanistan he saw a hut. The hut was an old public toilet that was being used as a school-house. There were other huts being used as school houses that were of the same system. The huts/schoolhouses were full of students eager to learn.  Greg had to leave in order to catch a plane flight but he did call the local education office. The education office was unaware of the school huts and now the huts have been turned into school houses.

I support donating money to Afghanistan to build schools, but I think we need to pull out of the war on Terror. The people in Afghanistan and Iraq have been fighting for over two thousand years. The real war is a religious war between the Sunni and the Shia Muslims. The only other reason we have troops in the Middle East is because of oil. I don’t see why should try to stop a religious war that has been going on for two thousand years.
